Day 04

April 10

Sundays are bit different around the Holler, since our church has been meeting in our living room for almost fourteen years. We are building a new building just down the road, but we are still dealing with local codes and such to get final approval to move in. Since it is so much trouble to set up and take down, we just leave as it is all the time. We are small group, but that is not our final destination. It is not the size of the string nor the length of the string that determines the quality of the string, and so it is with churches. It has been a struggle as most folks do not like to come to a home for church. And if everybody that says they are coming when we get into the new building shows up, we will have to have policemen to control the traffic. We have seen many prayers answered that have been lifted up in this room, including erecting a building by faith with no debt. We are old fashioned in our worship, teaching and preaching directly out of the Bible and singing the old hymns. Today Les will join us in worship, praise and fellowship.

Since we knew he was coming, we planned on a cookout so he could spend more time with our church folks, not to mention the good eating. I always grill with wood instead of charcoal so I fire up the grill to prepare the 'burnt offerings' before church. It's an old thing made out of a water tank that I lined with fire bricks, but it does a mighty fine job when it comes cooking meat. And today is no exception!

One of the nice things about living in the Holler is that you would think you were a hundred miles from everywhere if you just look around. But we are less than three miles from an Interstate exit, and about four miles to the civilization if you count Wal-Mart as such. Our side deck has a roof over it and a ceiling fan, so that is where we hold our 'feeds'. This is the view when you look up the hillside from the side deck. Today the food is great, the conversation even better, and the weather is nice. Nothing is better than good time of food and sharing with folks that know the same Blessed Peace that you know through Jesus Christ. We all have a big time then the difficult time comes - at least for one person.

Our poor pastor has to preach to folks whose bellies are full which causes the lids of the eyes to tend to fall down. But he is the man for the job and we are again blessed by words from the Word of God. Soon the day is done, and the rest of the folks head back to their respective homes fully fed both physically and spiritually. Since we are on our own time schedule tomorrow, I tell Les -

"We can sleep in tomorrow - maybe to 6 AM even!"

He just shakes his head and we bid good night. It's been a good day in the House of Lord and sleep finds me quickly.
