Day 02 June 18 |
||
Breakfast is a no-brainer as there is an excellent restaurant just a block up the street. I get BlueBelle ready to roll and we do.
Southern Style is one of those places that lives up to its sign - "Food For The Soul"
|
||
The service is good and the food is good - what more could a feller ask for?
I wade into the field of battle and emerge the victor once again.
I make another run down the back streets of Natchez proper as I love the old buildings that have been preserved over the years.
Soon I'm at the crossing of the mighty Mississippi which will take me into Louisiana on the other side.
As I make my way across Louisiana I always get amused at some of the names of the local communities. This is Frogmore and the location of the Frogmore Plantation that still produces cotton. Its name has an interesting backstory - Frogmore Plantation was built by Daniel Morris, an Englishman, who named the plantation after Windsor Castle's Frogmore. The castle was a residence so loved by the British royals that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert chose to be interred there.
|
||
Moving across the back roads of Louisiana I have the roads all to myself but the sky does not look favorable.
I pass through various swampy areas but I always like it when I am running alongside a river.
Finally I reach the last state for the day - Texas.
And as soon as I do, I encounter not the first one nor ...
the last one of the contruction zones that I will encounter on this trip.
It's about 'normal' lunch time so this sign makes me want to stop ... but I don't.
But when I encounter this, it sort of makes me wish I had stopped. Austin, coupled with the heat and the traffic is a real train wreck. I thought I had routed around most of the city but as it turns out I thought wrong.
But soon I manage to escape the insanity of city traffic and get back where I can get some air moving again.
Out in the hill country I pass what appears to be a recreation of a medieval castle. The sign tells me it is an event venue.
After the Austin deal, I am a very happy camper to see this sign.
My original plans were to go to the restaurant right across the parking lot. But it has gone shut in the last year. So I ask the dear lady behind the desk - "Anywhere in reasonable walking distance to eat around here?" She responds - "Yes, there is a very good Mexican restaurant just up the street." "Do you eat there?" which is my usual next question. "Oh yes and I like it very much" she replies. That's all I need so I get BlueBelle unloaded, wash some of the road nastiness off of me and take a little stroll. |
||
It is a really busy place so I just sit still for a bit chilling in the nice cool air. They find me a place to sit and the grub is forth coming - and it is really good.
And once I again I retire from the field of battle victorious!
I waddle back to my room slowly in the heat and I am quickly dispatched to the Land of the Full Stomach and the Tired Head.
