Day 17

July 3

It did do some serious raining last night but I hope the storms have at least moved on through and are well ahead of me.

One more time on this trip I pack up BlueBelle and we are after it.

I hit I435 which will get me around Kansas City proper and hopefully help me miss most of the morning rush hour traffic.

Traffic does get a little thick but at least there are no backups. Traffic backups are a real concern of mine these days with so many drivers not paying attention to what is in front of their vehicle.

As much as I hate it, the skies look like my old storm friend has slowed down to pay me another visit. I have to give him credit - he has been a constant companion but just not a real pleasant one.

As I make my way homeward, I once again get to watch what I call an 'elephant dance' where one semi can't seem to get up enough speed to pass another one. Unless the 'passee' relents and lets the 'passer' ahead this can go on for miles and miles as traffic backs up behind them.

As I get close to St. Louis, the interstate turns into a parking lot as vehicles are going nowhere. I figure I don't want none of that, so I hop off and try to figure away around it. At least I'm moving in the heat and keeping a little air flowing.

Between me and my sense of direction and the GPS we finally get back on route.

But the 'exercise' has wrung me out in the heat, so I find the next Pilot where I can get some of my favorite drinks - Diet Suncrest Orange.

Now that I am rolling along again I have to chuckle when I see this sign. It has the right city name of where I'm headed - just the wrong state.

But I really smile when I see this as I24 will take me to where I want to be.

But before long I am witness to another painful 'elephant dance' but this one ends a little quicker than the previous one.

I wave to Superman at Metropolis as I always do when I pass him.

As the day, my trip and my energy level draws to end, I am a happy camper to see this border sign.

Before long I am back in my beloved Holler with me and BlueBelle without any 'broken' body parts like the last long trip we took together. It's been a very interesting ride in many ways, but this old hillbilly is certainly glad to back home where his heart is.
